You may be an associate dentist looking for the best accountant to take forward your business. We know how much added value we offer our customers, but to show much we are appreciated by them we will be posting some case studies over the coming months so you can hear directly from dental professionals about how we can manage their accounts and – more importantly – save them money.
This month we caught up with Associate Dentist Dr. Aleksander Srokosz, who works at Dartmouth Dental Practice.
Aleks, thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts on working with the SmallBiz team. What was your first experience like, managing your accounts, when you first started out?
“It was okay for year one. I just Googled for an accountant and found a cheap and competitive quote from a random company. At first, it was fine, I was just having to process a few invoices with them, but then it seemed there was never advice about anything. I wasn’t aware of how much tax I could be saving and there was never any face-to-face help. They were making me do all of the work.”
So, what made you approach Small Biz, and what were your first impressions?
“I wanted to find someone close by, who I could go and see if I had a problem and straight away when I got in touch with Nathan, I could see the full picture, and he would give me great advice. I was paying a little more at first – compared to the old accountant – but I was making much better savings in the long run.”
What did you think of the cloud-based software which the team suggested for you?
“Nathan introduced me to Xero. At first, I had no idea what to do with it but straight away I could see it was super easy and clever. Before I would print stuff off and take it to the post office, now I take a photo of it and that’s it, done, and I have an easy record on there showing what I have uploaded if I need to double check. He also suggested – which was a great idea – to have a dedicated account just for work expenses which meant transactions were very easy to track and follow.”
How has your relationship with SmallBiz developed over the last two years?
“I think of Nathan as one of my friends, I would recommend him to anybody, he’s saving me time, money, and he’s very approachable.”
If you could suggest anything SmallBiz could do better, what would you suggest?
“When I first started working with them, I would email Nathan with a question and he would respond back, straight away! I had to keep telling him, it’s fine, I do not need an answer right away, next week is fine, haha!”
