As an associate dentist, the records you should keep as the minimum are
- all receipts for purchases
- bank statements,
- practice statements
- mileage log
Keeping your receipts on emails is acceptable, but remember, should you lose access to them and have no evidence of your expenses, getting copies can be very problematic. It’s the same problem should you close a bank account; getting copy statements after the closure can be a pain in the asset.
A folder to save your documents and statements is essential for keeping accounting records.
If HMRC is investigating, you should be prepared to lose a tax deduction for costs if you can’t provide receipts.
